Members of Queen’s Park Press Gallery in mourning

Yusra Javed, the Queen’s Park Press Gallery intern for summer 2019, died suddenly early Saturday morning September 14th, 2019. She was 21.

Javed was a promising reporter entering her fourth year at Ryerson University for journalism. In her time at Queen’s Park she distinguished herself as eager, kind and smart, and improved the mood of any room she entered. With a fondness for political journalism, Javed worked hard at Queen’s Park to learn and take advantage of opportunities. She asked the premier pointed questions about youth issues. She exclusively reported for iPolitics the government’s failure to follow through on a promise to hold an anti-racism conference.

Yusra Javed was the Queen’s Park Press Gallery intern this summer at The Legislative Assembly in The Province of Ontario and impressed us so much as a sharp, hard-working and clearly talented young person with huge potential. I’ve shed so many tears since learning this shocking news yesterday. I can’t imagine her parents’ grief.
